A yellow jacket snitching some of my salad.
Friday, October 12 was an incredibly gorgeous day. I worked outside two hours longer than I’d planned because I couldn’t stop staring at the blue sky. I ate lunch in the garden just to soak in some of the sun’s energy. I was visited by a few yellow jackets interested in my salad.
The sky was fantastic!

I found two stinkhorns growing in a space that was cleared this summer. Several tree stumps were removed. I’ve never seen this kind of fungi before. The cap is covered with a muddy looking slime that attracts flies. I did not get close enough to smell it.

never knew yellow jackets liked salad

They like lots of our food. That’s why they always show up at our picnics. 🙂
